Cheap Trick Going Back to 8-Track

Posted 5 months ago
See that thing up there? That's what we used to call an 8-track tape back in the dark days of the 70's. It was bulky and the format of four equal-length "sides" meant that songs were either put on the tape in a different order from the album or they would fade out in the middle, only to fade back in once the tape moved to the next "track" (it was called 8-track, but it was really four stereo tracks).

For awhile they were semi-popular, but the audio cassette finally won out in the format battle. As a matter of fact, it's almost impossible to find someone to make them anymore.

That didn't deter Cheap Trick, though, as they have produced a small run of their new album, The Latest, on 8-Track. Don't expect to see these in your local Wal-Mart. They are going to use most of them to send to various radio stations and other media outlets as a promotional piece. It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that some of these may eventually show up on eBay for those Cheap Trick completists.
