Elvis Costello played at Amoeba Records in both Los Angeles and San Francisco on Monday to promote his new album Secret, Profane and Sugarcane. Both stores received an 11-song, 55-minute set with six songs from the new album, two new tunes, covers of the Grateful Dead's Friend of the Devil and Buddy Holly's Not Fade Away and the Costello classic Blame It On Cain.
Ray Davies told the Independent that Julien Temple still intends on making a full length documentary on the Kinks. Temple previously directed The Filth and the Fury on the Sex Pistols and last year's Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten as well as 80's videos by the Kinks like Come Dancing.
The much rumored Kinks reunion doesn't look like it's going to happen, Davies said "I gotta tell you, I miss the Kinks. I heard Lola on the radio a few months back, and I was amazed how strong the intro was. With the other, fuzz-guitar-driven stuff I could always get that energy and power from my brother Dave. Jimmy Page and Eric [Clapton] are great technical players, but you wouldn't have got that from them."
Joseph Brooks, the man who wrote the seventh biggest record of the last 50 years per Billboard, has been charged with raping and assaulting women who answered his ad on Craigslist.
Brooks wrote the song You Light Up My Life and directed the motion picture of the same name back in 1977. He also composed the Roberta Flack song If Ever I See You Again and numerous songs for 80's mall star Tiffany.
The Manhattan District Attorney said that there were eleven victims, nine of which answered ads for acting auditions Brooks placed on Craigslist.
Collector's Choice has announced they will reissue four Jackie DeShannon albums on three CDs. Included are her 1963 debut (Jackie DeShannon), a combo CD of Me About You and To Be Free, and an updated version of New Arrangement with five bonus tracks. Release is set for July 14.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will feature an exhibit on the 40th anniversary of Woodstock starting July 3 and running through November 29.
