Steely Dan Taking the "Perform the Album" Route, No Plans For New Music

Posted 5 months ago
Steely Dan recently talked with Billboard on their upcoming Rent Party '09 U.S. tour and have some a little something extra in a few of the cities.

During multi-night stands in Boston, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, they are planning on playing one of three albums from the days when they were no longer touring. Depending on the night, the crowd might hear The Royal Scam, Aja or Gaucho in their entirety.

The fourth night of these stands will be dedicated to Internet requests, where fans can go on their website and select songs that they would like to hear live from a list of possibilities. Walter Becker told Billboard, "As a practical matter...in preparing the band for the tour, we had to sort of limit the tunes we'd prepare or else it would just be too much, sort of overwhelming."

Becker also said that no new music is in the offering anytime in the near future. "We don't have anything in the pipeline right now. The question (about a new album) may be asked, but it hasn't been answered."
