- Many times "superstar collaborations" just don't result in critically or commercially popular albums. That's not the case with this week's release of the debut album by Chickenfoot. Made up of Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony (Van Halen), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Joe Satriani, their first album lands at number 4 in the U.S. (number 3 on Rock and number 1 on Hard Rock Album charts) and number 9 in Canada.
- Elvis Costello has his highest charting album since 1980's Get Happy!! and his third highest charting album ever with Secret, Profane and Sugarcane. The LP opens at 13 both in the U.S. and Canada and 71 in the U.K.
- The new Ray Charles compilation, Genius: The Ultimate Ray Charles Collection, debuts at number 35 in the U.S. and 40 in Canada.
- More than ten years after his death, Frank Sinatra has the numbers 3, 4 and 5 albums on the Jazz Album chart, each on a different label. His Live at the Meadowlands, out on Concord, drops 2 to 3 while Classic Sinatra II, his new compilation of Capitol 50's sides, debuts at number 4 and his Seduction: Sinatra Sings of Love on Reprise holds steady at number 5.
- Sinatra isn't the champion this week for late-artists on the charts. Almost 45 years after his death, Jim Reeves has the highest charting album by a veteran artist on the British charts, and it's not an abberation. This is his third week in the top 20 with The Very Best of Jim Reeves.
- For over two years, we have done this weekly Chart Watch column detailing how well veteran artists are charting in a number of English language speaking countries around the world. Those charts are published at various times during the week and, quite frankly, the British chart below is almost a week old. Starting tomorrow, we will be breaking out each country's charts into separate columns so that the information is given to our readers in a more timely manner.
