Queen Looks at Lambert, Simmons Not as Impressed
-
Artist:
Adam Lambert may have come in second in this year's American Idol, but he may be fronting an offer from a big name.Brian May told Rolling Stone that the members of Queen "are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation with at some point. It's not like we, as Queen, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isn't that easy. But I'd certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there."
Not only did Lambert sing with Queen on the final show, but also with KISS; however, Gene Simmons was a lot less supportive. "Respectfully, I don't think Adam is a rock singer. He sounds much more convincing singing ballads, and Broadway shows. His voice doesn't seem to have a 'rock quality.' But, I'm sure he's going to do just fine."

I see, Gene. Gay people can't sing rock, isn't that it? What was the the name of that gay guy that sang heavy metal....uh Rob Halford, wasn't it? And then there was Freddie Mercury. And Elton John? I see.
I'm sorry what was it you were saying?
Konkrypton, I read the same article you just did, and I'm curious as to how you jumped to that conclusion, that Gene Simmons not caring for Adam's voice as a rock singer is instamatic gay-bashing.
Considering Adam made a name on AI singing ballads and doing more theatrical-type things, and he has a history in musical theater, I fail to see how his comments were off base.
I guess it is my own bias showing through - re: Gene Simmons. He's an egotistical, pompous ass and it just seemed like that would be his attitude. It sounded like he was saying that Adam was only fit for "showtunes." Usually this is code for "he sounds too gay."
Remember that Freddie Mercury was opera-trained - hardly the background for a "rock singer," as Simmons put it. Nonetheless, Freddie has earned his rock chops, and if Brian May thinks Adam would be good with Queen, that's enough of a recommendation for me.
