Island Records Celebrates 50th With London Exhibition

Island Records continues the celebration of its 50th anniversary with an exhibition of memorabilia at The Vinyl Factory Gallery at Phonica Records in London's Soho district. The show opens this Friday and runs through Wednesday, June 17.

Over 800 items are included in the exhibition which tells the story of Island Records from its Jamaican beginnings to today. Included are:
  • Iconic prints by some of rock's greatest photographers
  • Nick Drake's guitar
  • Amy Winehouse's 2008 Grammy dress
  • U2's Trabant
  • Bob Marley's passport application
  • The Buggles' bass guitar and glasses worn by Trevor Horn for the Video Killed the Radio Star video
  • Tom Tom Club's pearl blue tom tom
  • Handwritten lyrics
  • Original posters
A video wall will play performances and highlights from the Island Films catalog while a touch-screen Microsoft table is available to further explore the label's history and music. Finally, there will be occasional acoustic concerts by artists from the label.
