Martin Scorcese to Produce & Direct Sinatra Biopic

Martin Scorcese, long known for not only his film work but also for his music documentaries, has been brought on by Universal and Mandalay Pictures to produce and direct Sinatra.

According to a Variety article, the project has been in development for two years with Peter Guber and Cathy Schulman who have successfully negotiated a deal with Frank Sinatra Enterprises, which controls all rights to the Sinatra name and music.

Schulman has speculated that Leonardo DeCaprio would be a natural to play the singer, given his long history of working with Scorcese. She did note that all music would come directly from original recordings.

Daughter Tina Sinatra commented, "My father had great admiration for the talent of the people he chose to work with, and the talented people who worked with my father had great admiration for him. It is personally pleasing to me that this paradigm continues with Marty Scorsese at the helm of the Sinatra film."
