Entertainment Weekly Picks Best Biopics, Esquire Picks Best Albums for Men
-
Artist:
Entertainment Weekly has published a list of the Best Biopics ever and it includes a few movies about veteran artists. The highest that any ranked was number 16 for last year's biopic of Edith Piaf, La Vie En Rose. That was followed at 21 by Coal Miner's Daughter (Loretta Lynn) at 21, Ray (Ray Charles) at 22 and Walk the Line (Johnny Cash) at 25.
Of course, if you really wanted to push the definition of a veteran artist, there is a higher ranking movie. At number two (right behind Raging Bull) is Amadeus and, if we define veteran by the number of years ago they lived, than Mozart is the most veteran of the veteran artists on the list.
Over at Esquire magazine, they're released their list of the 75 Albums That Every Man Should Own. Other than the fact that Esquire is aimed at the men's market, we can't figure out any reason why women shouldn't consider the list of albums as required listening, too.
Upon first look, you may think "oh, it's just another list of the standard albums" but look closely. Tell us the last time you saw Minor Threat or Pulp on a "greatest" list or see Willie Nelson's Phases and Stages or the Talking Heads' True Stories named as their essential albums. There's a lot to take in here and consider.
They claim it's "unranked, incomplete yet highly tasteful and informative." See what you think about the albums by veteran artists that made the grade:
