Stax Collection to Feature Tracks Sampled in Hip-Hop
-
Artist:
Samples from the large Stax Records catalog have been used extensively over the last two decades by many hip-hop artists. The label, now owned and operated by the Concord Music Group, has collected just a few of those gems on the new album The Soul of Hip Hop, Volume I. The set will be available on March 31 on CD and through the digital marketplace.Featured are tracks from such Stax mainstays as Isaac Hayes, Booker T. & the MGs, the Emotions, Rufus Thomas and more. While the majority of the songs were not the hits for the Stax artists during their heyday, snippets from each will be familiar to those who are fans of hip-hop artists like Rakim, Cypress Hill, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Ice Cube, Notorious B.I.G. and Wu-Tang Clan.
