Our weekly recap of veteran artists on the current music charts. Chart highlights:
- Once again, a very slow chart week with ABBA continuing their resurgence after the release of Mamma Mia on DVD. The soundtrack moves 12 to 11 on the album chart while the Gold hits package goes 1 to 2 on the catalog albums. The most ABBA crazy, though, seems to be Canada where two greatest hits packages and two different versions of the soundtrack are currently in the top 100 albums.
- Once again, we have an example of how deep discounting of an album can send it back onto the charts in a big way. Amazon recently had a one-day sales on Beauty and the Beat by the Go-Go's with downloads of the album being $1.99. It moved it to number 24 on the catalog album chart.
- In Britain, Bette Midler 's Jackpot greatest hits album is the highest charter of any classic artist, even though it has been out a number of months.
