Ace Frehley is going to attempt to be the first musician to perform and record from outer space. The Ace of Space project has been in the works for about ten months and is being documented for a VH1 special.
Lamont Dozier has told Billboard that the producers of the musical The First Wives Club , for which Holland-Dozier-Holland reunited after 30 years to write the score, will preview in San Diego's Old Globe in July and hopefully hit Broadway in March 2010.
The trio wrote 30 songs for the show which have since been paired down to 22. Rupert Holmes (Escape (The Pina Colada Song) ) wrote the book for the show.
Bruce Springsteen won the Critic's Choice Award for Best Song for his theme from The Wrestler .
William Zatzinger, the man who was the subject of Bob Dylan 's The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carol , has passed away at the age of 69.
Zatzinger was a tobacco farmer who was convicted of killing Carol, an African-American barmaid, with his cane at a party. History has since shown that the cane was a toy and that it left no mark, leading some to believe she died of some other cause. He was sentenced to six months in jail.
As a followup to our earlier story on Steve Martin 's new album, he will debut a couple of the songs on the January 31 edition of Saturday Night Live.
Jon Hager of the Hager Brothers passed away on Friday at the age of 67. The duo had been part of the Hee-Haw television program and had been musicians for Buck Owens . His identical twin, Jim, died last May.
Also passing is Claude Jeter of the gospel group The Swan Silvertones . Jeter died last Tuesday at the age of 94.
Music fans must have taken the "no more Led Zeppelin" comments seriously as a new poll in Britain finds that the people would most like to see a reunion by ABBA . The Smiths , who were last year's leader, came in second while Robbie Williams and Take That were third. The balance of the top 10 were the Stone Roses, Guns N' Roses with Slash, Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, Faces, Wham! and the Jackson 5 .
