WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Out of the forest

What is more relaxing than dreaming of a tropical island? Being on a real island perhaps? In my list over albums with that nice chill out island sound I have added Deep Forest's fifth album Pacifique from 2000. It was sadly not as successful as Eric Mouquet and Michel Sanchez' previous releases, but all Deep Forest fans will find a lot to enjoy here. It was the soundtrack to the Frensh film Le Prince du Pacifique . The songs are surprisingly ambient, much more than other albums by this group. It is in many ways a lifeless studio production. No live steel drums here, only samples and loops. Just listen to the theme on the title track, which is a nice melody but highly constructed. But I am not complaining. We are after all not looking for authenticity, only quality new age music. And yes, Pacifique is a quality release. Just close your eyes and the dream island will emerge in your mind. The special Deep Forest sound is here too. Just listen to the track Le Basier . It reminds me of some of the tracks on World Mix (1994). All in all it is a somewhat dark and ambient album, but a nice variation to the tropical island theme. The sun is not always shining, not even on a tropical island. Sample the album on Amazon or other music outlets. Sample the album on Last.fm . It can be a little hard to find, because it is not on iTunes or Amazon mp3 downloads.
