WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Unreleased! Elliott Smith - Grand Mal

Posted 3 months ago

Fuck yeah. In my opinion, Elliott Smith's songwriting and composing skills were on the level of an elite few. In a lot of ways, I think his songs were very similar to The Beatles (in structure, not style). He just happened to be an emotionally scarred junkie. I know comparing music to The Beatles is against the rules, but I believe that Elliott was on that level as a songwriter.

Elliott died in 2003, and since then unreleased music has been steadily surfacing. This one is from the XO recording sessions. Apparently, there was a slow version and a fast version. At the end of this one, you can hear a frustrated Elliott say "Forget it, now it's too fast." Probably why we never had the pleasure of hearing it until now. Saw this one at IGIF.
