In my opinion Marissa Nadler reached a fine height with 2007’s Bird onthe Water. Songs like ‘Sylvia’ entrenched themselves in theimagination; the melodies were persuasive and the simple guitar pickingwas confident in its emotional capability. Songs like ‘Mexican Summer’expanded her atmospheric repertoire and re-contextualised her gothicballads in lands beyond the forest edge that they grew in.
