John Frusciante: The Empyrean

John Frusciante has pretty much seen and done it all. He's battled drug addiction, depression and almost killed himself on more than one occasion. He's in one of the biggest bands in the entire world (Red Hot Chilli Peppers for anyone who lives under a rock) and has frequently worked with countless big names, The Mars Volta probably being the most prominent.

this is the first review i've read about this album. you've got me way more psyched about it. i knew it'd be a killer album when i heard "central"
I've been listening to this now for about 3 days straight, and it's definitely one of his strongest albums. Sometimes the mood is a bit too somber, even for his work, and he makes some decidedly odd choices with some of his vocals. The guitar playing is as ever brain-melting, though.
Now I have to go hunt down the track "Today". Always the Japanese bonus tracks with Frusciante ("Of Before" from Shadows Collide W/ People being a fave of mine)!
i just heard it for the first time today and it blew me away. i was expecting something good but this is excellent. i'll have to hunt down these japanese tracks you speak of, astronot.
