I once heard Thom Yorke describe his lyrics “fridge buzz” as a reference to the musical saturation we are experiencing in our society. Everywhere we go we hear music: horrible pop tunes in supermarkets, thoughtless instrumental music in shopping malls or professional offices; the never-ending blare of music that accompanies advertisements, movies or car drivers and so on. We hear music all the time; but how often do we really listen to it?
