Library Girl and I finally went to see the Toronto performance of We Will Rock You yesterday. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, it's the rock opera based on the music of Queen.
It was pretty entertaining.
The song were obviously strong. Pretty much all the hits were included: "We Will Rock You", "We Are the Champions", "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Under Pressure", "Radio Ga Ga", "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "Another One Bites the Dust" and many many more.
The band performing the music was excellent, particularly the guitarists. The singers, while some were stronger than others, for the most were good.
The storyline was a bit weak, but as long as you realize that it's really just there to be a delivery method for the songs of Queen.
We also liked the way that many cultural references were obviously changed from the original London production to account for this Canadian staging.
While not high-brow theatre, it is a highly entertaining show that I would strongly recommend.
