Update: Hip Hop Reaction To Darrion Albert Murder
-
Artist:

A couple weeks ago I wrote a post asking why the hip hop community seemed so quiet in response to the brutal murder of Chicago teen Darrion Albert. Since that time David Banner has stepped up to the plate, releasing a song, planning a rally in Chicago, and is currently making the rounds in the media trying to spread awareness and work toward tangible goals. Here's a clip of Banner on Chicago radio.....
WGCI David Banner Interview - Derrion Albert, Violence, Rally from MCM on Vimeo.
The song is called "Something's Wrong" and although David Banner is from Mississippi he got a bunch of Chicago artists to jump on the song Rhymefest, Naledge (from Kidz In The Hall), Skooda Chose, and producer 9th Wonder.
The rally David Banner had planned for October 20th was canceled due to safety concerns. Only 700-1,000 people were originally expected to attend but the interest swelled so much that extra planning is needed to hold the event. Banner insists it WILL eventually take place and the goal of the event is to to develop solutions to the problem of youth and gang violence and how unity can be fostered throughout various neighborhoods in Chicago.

I was really troubled by the Chicago incident. My musical response to Darrion's death and the issues we face can be found in my remix of Kanye Wests' Gifted song with Indaba:http://www.indabamusic.com/submissions/show/10745
