I know hip hop fans have been salivating for a Fugees reunion for over ten years now, but as time goes on it seems like less and less of a reality. I don't want to overstep my bounds, but it really appears like Lauryn Hill is a completely different person (on both the inside, and outside) than the one we got to know in the mid to late nineties.
Wyclef Jean very carefully hints at the change in Lauryn Hill in this new interview with Access Hollywood after being questioned on a possible reunion. But in my opinion, the most interesting thing about this interview is the fact that Wyclef mentions how Dave Chappelle was the only person on earth who could even get The Fugees back in the same room with one another. The meeting had absolutely nothing to do with money, it was all about the artform and really giving fans something they've been craving.
The problem is once Chappelle left, and the group sat together and tried to create new music, a battle over creative control ultimately led to a failed reunion. If these guys only cared about the money, I believe they would have released multiple follow up albums by now.
But a question I always ask myself is.... would they even sound remotely similar to what they used to? Lauryn Hill is in a totally different space musically compared to the year of 1996. Would a reunion only be a let down?
I'm not totally sure....

True True. Somethings you just can't go back to..seasons change, people change.
But I would love to see some real quality lyricism and beats come out of somebody, somewhere...the hip hop game of now (at least commercially) leaves much to be desired...todays youth/market aren't very demanding.
Lauryn Hill is in a totally different personality as far as I can tell. Some of the stuff I have read makes me think she has a screw loose. Of course it could all be gossip and banter.
As for quality lyrics, the Fugees were bohemian, but I was rarely that impressed. Especially with Pras, he was just a better producer than rapper. But yeah, they were still pretty good when they were on top, so I am not hating!
Why would Lauryn want to rejoin the Fugees. Wyclef and Pras have repeatedly disrespected her over the years. It always amazes me that people are so quick to fault Lauryn for the break. No one ever looks into Wyclef nd Pras motivation for the public disrespect shown to Lauryn over the years. The funny thing is Lauryn is always brought into the conversation when these individuals have something to sale and/or promote.
Lauryn is a mother. She has not 1 not 2, but 5 children to raise. Lauryn has continued to make beautiful music over the years. You should take the time and do a little research on youtube (look up her lasted offering "The World is a Hustle"). Lauryn is a genius and I for one would not like to see this "gentle flower" be subjected to the abuses of these individuals ever again. I will simply wait for Lauryn to re-emerge on her own.
No one blamed Lauryn for the breakup, Lauryn is typically blamed for the *reunion* not happening.
I've definitely heard Wyclef and Pras say bad things about Lauryn over the years, but with all due respect, the woman is a little odd. That doesn't make her a bad person, but let's call a spade a spade.
I recall about 1-2 years ago, Lauryn Hill did a comeback show here in Oakland, California and the fans were absolutely PISSED at her lack of professionalism, and the crappy "show" she put on. This had nothing to do with industry politics or angry group members, this was straight from the FANS.
Her behavior is (or used to be) extremely questionable. So no... I'm not surprised Wyclef and Pras spoke badly about her.
Yes, Lauryn hold some responsibility for showing up late to her shows, but how she choices to dress or arrange her music is entirely left up to her. On the otherhand, you have ever right not to like it. I think the first think people should do is stop expecting a 20 year old Lauryn Hill to suddenly appear. Lauryn is still a very beautiful women and I have yet to see her dressed in her stage makeup and costumes off stage. Did you know Lauryn was about 4 months pregnant during that Oakland performance? Yes, she was sick for most of that tour, but she went ahead with and delivered some great performances in the end. If she would have cancelled imagine what the press would have said about her.
I have zero respect for Wyclef and Pras. They went on their public campaign against this women when they had no personal contact with her in years based on statements made by Wyclef himself. They did not even know she was pregnant at the time. So, she got creative covering up her pregnancy. I highly suspect they both were having financial problems as documented in the news. If Lauryn is so terrible move on with your life and leave her alone. She never says anything negative about anyone. So, why all the hate for her. The Fugees success directly rest on the shoulder of Ms Hill, and everone knows it.
I know I should hire a proof reader, but you get the point.
At this point with all time that is passed It's hard to think a comeback would work.
Fugees reunion? Sometimes the dream is better than the reality.
Yeah, I think a Fugees reunion would be a disappointment anyway. Pras was always a terrible rapper. There is speculation that Lauryn Hill is mentally ill. Even if she isn't, I haven't heard anything from her post-miseducation that I would spend a quarter on. That 2.0 album was garbage. Wyclef is cool, but the 1996 Fugee La days are gone. If you want to hear the Fugees, dust of The Score and reminisce. Sometimes you just gotta let it go.
