The Top 10 Craptastic Hip Hop Movies
-
Artist:

It's pretty much considered a rite of passage for rappers to release a straight-to-video movie at some point in their careers. Unfortunately, I've seen every film on this list at least twice and I can verify without hesitation that these are some of the worst movies you'll ever see.
Every odd numbered movie included in this post contains a short YouTube clip for the bravest readers.
10.Get Rich Or Die Tryin
Rapper: 50 Cent
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0430308/
Prior to the release of this movie, fans were already beaten over the head with 50 Cent's life story in countless interviews, albums, and his autobiography. The movie failed to reveal anything hip hop fans hadn't already known for years and ended up looking a cheap cash-in on the hottest artist in music (at the time). The acting was poor, the action was minimal, and the ending was terrible.
------------
9. House Party 3
Rappers: Kid N Play
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110064/
The original House Party is considered a classic, House Party II was clearly not as good as the first but decent, and the third House Party delivered the death blow to the entire franchise. When you remove the late great Robin Harris and Martin Lawrence and leave Kid N Play to carry a film that clearly only exists to milk the last drop out of a trilogy.... you get this.
8. Bones
Rapper: Snoop Dogg
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0166110/
Snoop Dogg plays a nightclub owner/pimp with a heart of gold who is murdered because he refuses to sell drugs out of his establishment. He returns as a ghost to seek revenge on everyone who double crossed him while simultaneously cleaning up the neighborhood.
.... yeah.
7. Cash Money - Baller Blockin
Rappers: Lil Wayne, B.G., Juvenile
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0315253/
I was going to write a summary of this movie in my own words, but then I stumbled across a user review on IMDB that summed things up better than I ever could.
"I cant believe this movie was actually made. Its like the writer just wrote down a paragraph summary of what the movie should be about and let the "actors" just improvise."
Improvisation may work out just fine on Curb Your Enthusiasm, but when you're using rappers with no acting experience whatsoever.... you get Baller Blockin. The soundtrack had some good songs though, for what it's worth.
6. Ed Lover & Dr. Dre - Who's The Man
Rappers: Everyone you can think of
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108560/
This movie had cameos from tons of rappers, and a few respected actors (Vincent Pastore, Dennis Leary), and touts itself as a comedy/mystery. The only redeeming value is that you get to point out cameo roles and say "Hey thats _____!" for 90 minutes long.
5. Breakin 2
Rapper: Ice-T
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086999/
In all honesty, the original Breakin' could be on this list too but the sequel was the worst of the pair. Breakin' 2: The Electric Boogaloo was about developers trying to tear down a local community rec center, and breakdancers trying to stop them. Yes, it's as bad as it sounds.
4. Hot Boyz
Rappers: Master P & The No Limit Soldiers
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0191191/
I want to say this movie made it's debut on UPN (you remember the now defunct network that mostly aired black shows like "Homeboys From Outer Space") but I'm not 100% sure. This was a No Limit Records production so you could expect the usual cast (Silkk The Shocker, Master P, Mia X etc etc)
3. Soul Plane
Rapper: Snoop Dogg, Method Man
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0367085/
Unlike most of the movies on this list, Soul Plane was actually released in theaters and had the promotional backing to get a typical hollywood movie treatment. The previously mentioned fact makes it even more unbelievable that the final product turned out so terrible. This movie isso bad that some of the actors (Kevin Hart) have gone on record saying they just needed the money.
2. I'm Bout It
Rappers: Master P & The No Limit Soldiers
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0157784/
This is Master P's second time on the list and for good reason, I'm Bout It spread like wildfire at the height of Master P's popularity in the late 90s and robbed everyoneof two hours they will never get back. For unknown reasons, at the end of the VHS tape of I 'm Bout It, there was some sort of stripper party/softcore porn session that may or may not have made this movie more popular than it needed to be.
Don't watch this under any circumstances.
1. Day In the Life
Rappers: Sticky Fingaz (of Onyx), Treach (Of Naughty By Nature)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0810821/
I'm not going to lie to you guys, I LOVE THIS MOVIE... but I admit that it's absolutely terrible. This movie is so terrible that it borders on brilliance and once you start watchingit you won't be able to stop. The entire film's dialogue consists of rapping, it's not a completely original concept but it's executed here better than I've seen in any other movie.
Look, don't take my word for it.. just watch the trailer. Seriously, watch this trailer. (contains foul language and scantily clad women).

Hey, there have been some good ones though. New Jack City. Juice. Boyz N the Hood. Not every movie starring a rapper has to be bad. Just 90% of them.
"Not every movie starring a rapper has to be bad. Just 90% of them."
Thats about right....
No Dis-Orderlies? That might have been one of the first.
come on, where in the hell is "Cool As Ice". Vanilla Ice may not have any credit in the rap world but when that movie came out he was in the rap game. Favorite line, "Drop the zero and get with the hero"
Believe it or not.... I have never seen Cool As Ice.... I mean I could have taken a leap of faith and included it just because Vanilla Ice is in it... but Ive never seen it
see it and be amazed at just how bad it is. It makes Soul Plane look like an Oscar hit if you ask me. I worked at a movie theater for 5 years and saw every film that came out during that time. This and return to the blue lagoon are two that I still have nightmares about to this day
Great post Frost, I enjoyed this thoroughly. I've fortunately only seen 'Bones' because a good friend wanted to see it & that was his choice when we went to rent movies. Afterwards we both realized we'd been duped into seeing one of the worst films ever made.
And I've seen parts of 'Cool As Ice' when it ran on cable but couldn't bear to watch it in it's entirety, it was that bad.
This should be tagged as a service to humanity. Those clips are terrible. I don't think I got past 45 seconds, except for Day In The Life, which is pretty awesome. There seems an awful lot of violence tho - didn't those poor people have any time for sex?
Late on this one...But if you do the real nice hip hop movies list...don't forget Streets is Watching. Classic..Hot Fiyahh...big up yourself Dylon!
What about Cool Runnings?
