The band started as a complete joke—one that they didn't want anyone to laugh at. "Like in The Office, when there's a dreadful silence," The Wombats said. "The idea of the band was to be stupid. We were just idiots." But this bunch of idiots—who claim that their fourth band member is a stuffed wombat named Cherub—happened to make some of the catchiest, care-free indie-pop in existence, all songs of which will have you dancing on your feet within the first thirty seconds.
In their song 'Backfire at the Disco,' singer Matthew 'Murph' Murphy sings about putting the moves on a girl—and getting horribly and completely shot down after making "a sleazy remark on her whorish dress." While the lyrics of 'Moving to New York' are relatively simple, the Liverpool trio plays a mind-sticking melody that works just as well on the dance floor as it does in a road trip soundtrack. Their most recent single, 'Kill the Director,' continues in much of the same direction—it's a super catchy song that you'll want to dance to, drive to, and even wash dishes to. "This is my head and this is my spout," Murph sings, "They work together/They can't figure anything out." And if that doesn't pique your interest, I don't really know what will.

Hell, we're so unaware of our surroundings and political goings on, that we don't even pay attention to the fact that we already wrote about The Wombats . We're too hip for ourselves. intense.
