WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

I Love To Move In Here

Posted about 1 year ago

Self-Titled has been compiling some of its favorites of the year. Most of the usual Stop Okay Go suspects are there, such as Portishead and Jay Reatard. New to me on the list was British dubstep sensation Benga, whose song Night was "was the first dubstep track to be represented on the BBC Radio 1 daytime playlist."

I'm not so much into the dark, brooding dubstep sound but can appreciate it for what it is. A couple of different sites are calling Benga 's Diary of An Afro Warrior (Ed:not a Tyler Perry movie )
and iTal Tek's Cyclical the best dubstep albums of the year. So if I'm gonna listen to it, why not listen to the best.

Below are some other Self-Titled recommendations, including the excellent Mango Tree by Chandeliers . Also, a friend sent me probably one of the most hilariously dirty You Tube clips I've seen in a while, featuring a Flying Lotus song and directed by slightly psycho neon lovers Tim & Eric Awesome that anyone can Google if interested. Ergo , a bunch of Flying Lotus songs.

iTal: Wind Tunnel .mp3

Benga: Roller .mp3

Flying Lotus: Robo Tussin_Ft. Lil_Wayne .mp3

Benga: Night Hyper Bass_Remix .mp3

Flying Lotus: Message Situation .mp3

Chandeliers: Mango Tree .mp3 (Highly Recommended)

I must admit I was pretty mesmerized by that Benga and Coki video.  Fairly tame track, but works very nicely with the image.

i've been spinning these tunes ecstatically for awhile now.  but this was my first introduction to Chandeliers.  impressive tune - jazzy and entrancing.  a cross between experimental electronica and free-form jazz.  love it, thanks!

The Hyperbass remix has a complimentary video you'll no doubt love:

Love the deep sea dubstep theme!
