WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

On a cold Tuesday night, here in Boston, Mirah brought warmth and sincerity to polite crowd the Museum Of Fine Arts. Seeing Mirah live reminded me of the last solo artist performance I saw, which was Sondre Lerche. Seeing Sondre Lerche live and seeing Mirah live are two wholly different experiences. Lerche is an accomplished and well-learned guitarist, singer, and songwriter. Mirah, on the other hand, is a little more of the everywoman songwriter - not necessarily a practiced guitarist. The interesting thing here is that I enjoyed each of these artists immensely, in their own right. While there were occasional lapses in time or a clunk of the guitar, nothing ever distracted from Mirah's extraordinarily moving and compelling songwriting. Her performance carries the same sincerity of her music, and it made for a concert deep in emotion and power. Although at times I could have used some more instruments - for variety's sake - I never got tired of listening to and watching her. I could have sworn that the entire audience was leaning forward at times, in anticipation of her fragile, beautiful performance. It was just that good.
