Antony and the Johnsons reveal Another World

Earlier this week, Antony and the Johnsons released a little EP into this world called Another World. It precedes their next album, The Crying Light by almost three months, and features that album's first single, "Another World". I haven't quite wrapped my head around this one yet, although on initial listen, "Another World" struck me as a one of the most beautifully mournful songs I've heard in ages. "Shake That Devil" is apparently an older track that used to be called "Shake That Dog". It's elongated, and somewhat grating intro provides some respite about 2:25 minutes in when the tempo picks up and a bitching sax gives this bluesy tune some life. You can almost forgive them the painful two minute plus intro after enjoying the more interesting and appealing second half.Diehard fans will want to get their hands on this, but perhaps the casual listener can hold out until the new album is released on January 21st by Secretly Canadian Records.
