MUSIC NEWS- Canada's Cowboy Junkies have been out of the public eye for several months but now have announced that they will play live dates again starting in February 09. They have been working on new material and are considering a new album release in late 09 (or possibly early 2010). Back in September, they announced at CowboyJunkies.com that they would spend the next few months working on material for a new studio album and "trying to think up new and improved ways of surviving." In the meantime, the alt-country/rock group starts a nine-city run on February 5 in Ithaca, NY (itinerary listed below).
Check out their most recent studio album (their tenth), "At the End of Paths Taken " (2007); it followed their 2005 very political "Early 21st Century Blues ." The latest album was produced by band member Michael Timmins and recorded at the band's Toronto studio over several months in 2006. No further word on the new album (song titles, producer, guests, etc). And, to celebrate the 20th Anniversity of their Trinity Sessions, they went back to the Church of the Holy Trinity perform the same set of songs. Guest/friends, Ryan Adams, Vic Chesnutt and Natalie Merchant showed up to participate in their experiment. The result, Trinity Revisited , a two disc set DVD/CD release. One disc is a CD which plays stereo audio like any other CD. The other disc is a DVD which will work in any DVD player or computer. The performance was shot in High Definition Video and recorded at 96K for the highest audio and visual experience. The audio on the DVD was mixed in stereo as well as 5.1 surround sound.
