Stage Fall Injures MY MORNING JACKET's Jim James

MUSIC NEWS - My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James fell from the stage last night (Oct. 7) during the band's show in Iowa City.  His injuries were serious enough to warrant a trip to a local hospital and the cancellation of the rest of the show (no word on whether the gig will be re-scheduled).  MMJ also had to cancel two concerts scheduled Thursday and Friday at the Chicago Theatre, the band announced Wednesday. James fell off the stage while performing and ?suffered traumatic injuries to his torso,? the band said in a statement.  The singer was treated at a hospital and released, but ordered off the road for two to three weeks to recover from his injuries. This also ended his solo concerts James that he was supposed to perform on Wednesday at Schubas in Chicago

and next week in Louisville to benefit presidential candidate Barack Obama. James slipped and fell about 45 minutes into the show at the University of Iowa Recreation Building. He was taken to University Hospitals, treated and released. Drummer Patrick Hallahan first returned several minutes later to say James fell, the other members then returned to the stage to tell the audience that the show was canceled, with Hallahan admitting, "We've never had to do this before."  "Jim went to get closer to the audience on his side of the stage, and as he moved forward to step onto the sub-woofer the lights darkened, and he inadvertently stepped off the stage," the band says in a statement. Other than these gigs, My Morning Jacket has no other shows booked until October 29 in Dublin,Ireland, the start of their two-week European tour. "Per the doctor's orders, Jim will be off the road and recovering from his injuries for the next two to three weeks," the band says. They also have a big gig planned for 2008 New Years Eve at Madison Square Garden in NYC !

MMN wishes Jim a speedy recovery!!!
