MUSIC NEWS - Son Volt have just announced their summer plans, and are gearing up for the release of their new album 'American Central Dust', out July 7 Rounder Records (order here), an appearance at the Rothbury festival in Rothbury, MI, and a co-headlining tour with the Cowboy Junkies; which begins July 8 in Denver, CO at the Ogden Theatre.
Son Volt band leader, and former Uncle Tupelo member, songwriter and lyricist Jay Farrar frequently tackles complex topics in his songs, and the material on the new album may be some of his strongest yet, with topics as varied as cocaine, maritime tragedies, gas prices and Keith Richards. Pulling spirit from touchstones like the Flying Burrito Brothers, 'Sweetheart of the Rodeo' and the Rolling Stones 'Beggars Banquet,' the new album refines the bands robust sound, harkening back to the melodic clarity of their debut album 'Trace.' "American Central Dust' features Jay Farrar (guitar, harmonica, vocals), Dave Bryson (drums), Andrew Duplantis (bass guitar, backing vocals), Chris Masterson (lead guitar), Mark Spencer (keyboards, steel guitar).
