One of the biggest surprises of the weekend had to be Caribou's much expanded Vibration Ensemble. For years Caribou has pushed the envelope on recorded music but has more or less done so on his own with a few added players for certain tours. This time though Dan Snaith went and recruited an army of players including current Sun Ra Arkestra leader Marshall Allen, members of Four Tet, Junior Boys, Sinkane, and every musician who has ever been a part of the Caribou live performance. That alone made it a must see performance but standing there and watching it was truly a memorable experience.
The performance included choral parts, multiple percussionists, and just a huge sound that took over every inch of the big ballroom. It was a stirring performance that stood up to the Boredoms "9 BOADRUM" performance and continued the high level of incredible performances seen all weekend.
