    on one hand, it's hard to believe how many legendary music icons are passing through to the other side this year and last year alone (and December of the year before that where James Brown is concerned).

    on the other hand, what was in the water when all these people were impressionable youth?  powerful stuff i'd say...

    leaders of rhythmic revolutions, rebels with voices, psychedelic prophets and studio scientists all coming of age alongside recording/instrumental technology itself.

    Ellis himself helped Jamaicans define their cultural strength and national identity through music that was - for the 1st time - truly unique to Jamaica.  Hardly a small achievement!  true immortality i suppose....
