Clay, Gay? No Way!

Posted over 1 year ago

The speculation can finally be put to rest: Clay Aiken has come out of the glass closet.

According to People.com, Aiken says he expects the news may overwhelm some of his fans. "Whether it be having a child out of wedlock, or whether it be simply being a homosexual, it's going to be a lot," said Aiken, who returned to Broadway last week as Sir Robin in Monty Python's Spamalot.

He adds that he hopes his fans "know that I've never intended to lie to anybody at all. ... But if they leave, I don't want them to leave hating me."

I'm sure a lot of us could say the obvious has been stated; he's confirmed all our suspicions; Kathy Griffin is so prophetic (okay, maybe not that last one). But, for most of his deluded sheltered devoted fans, this needed to be finally confirmed. I mean, if you're crazy enough to call yourself a Claymate, a citizen of Clay Nation --that you're Aiken for Clay-- it makes total sense that you also might not have the most aware sense of a person's sexuality or orientation. All jokes aside, I hope his fans don't abandon him. I hope they take this revelation as a breath of fresh air and embrace it.

I, for one, applaud his ability to confirm what he or his camp have long been denying/avoiding. Better late than never, right?
