Seems almost fitting that Michael Jackson's "This Is It" took the top spot at the box office this Halloween weekend as fans pay homage to the "Thriller" singer. According to WSJ, the movie broke records as it went on to gross $101 million at the world-wide box office over five days.
The five-day total also makes "This Is It" the highest-grossing concert film of all time including outselling "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour," which previously held the title. Having seen the movie yesterday, it was pretty remarkable to see the wide mix of people in the theater, young and old alike enjoying the late singer's catalog.
What struck me most about the movie was leaving wondering if "This Is It" (the concert) would've been enough to re-kindle Jackson's career. While we'll never know, it was a nice glimpse into Jackson's creative mind and footage that proved him to be ever the perfectionist, which is something that has plagued him for years.
"This Is It" is not only for MJ die-hards, rather, it's a movie that can be enjoyed by anyone who has ever sung a Michael Jackson or Jackson 5 song. Let's face it, that's just about everyone out there.
