WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

The Wooden Birds (Featuring Andrew Kenny of AmAnSet) Sign to Barsuk

Posted 11 months ago
I've been waiting a really long time to make an announcement saying these words: Andrew Kenny, front-man of American Analog Set and one of the chillest dudes alive, has a new album - and you can hear some songs from it. The project is called The Wooden Birds and here's the rundown: Kenny sings and plays guitar, David Wingo (Ola Podrida) is in the band as well, as is AmAnSet collaborator Leslie Sisson and Lymbic System drummer Michael Bell.

The album is called Magnolia and is due in the spring, with not official street date as of yet, on Barsuk (US/CA) & Morr Music (EU). To review: this means that Barsuk now possesses the Death Cab back catalog, David Bazan, The Long Winters, Say Hi, Ra Ra Riot, Viva Voce, Menomena, Mates of State, Nada Surf, and this project, which makes them several times better than you and I are at releasing records, unless someone reading my blog worked at Motown or Stax in the 60's.

Kenny and the birds will be playing at SXSW apparently, and if you hadn't heard yet AmAnSet will be reuniting to play The Golden Band in it's entirety at Insound's party during the festival.....uh, yeah, if my wristband doesn't get me into that one, security had better be watching the side doors.

Kenny and the AmAnSet were kind enough to record a wintery track for Peace on Earth Vol. II, our humble little charity compilation, last month. It's the band's only output since their 2005 hiatus, and we were incredibly honored to release it. You can check it out if you'd like by clicking here. Aditionally, A.K. sat down for an interview with me way back in the summer of 2007, which can be read here.
