It's crazy to think that less than a year and a half ago, Scott Reitherman and his bedroom pop project Throw Me The Statue were about as underground as underground gets. Since our first post back in June '07, TMTS has seen all sorts of much-deserved success (anyone see those Rhapsody commercials?). Seems like no one could avoid that catchy lick from "Lolita".
It was great too see that TMTS finally unveiled a new song yesterday, the decidedly ruminating "Ship". It may be a contrast to the upbeat, light-as-paper songs from Moonbeams, but it's just as infectious:
[MP3] Throw Me The Statue - Ship
"Relax..." Reitherman chirps over sullen piano punches. He leads us from the dock out into sightless, airy depths, the small boat bobbing slowly and methodically in the brackish water. Our nerves sense the unusual, the tiny hairs in our ears pointing towards the muffled sounds of gentle but uncertain waves. The noise grows, the shore lights fade, water sloshes rampantly overboard. "It's alright," our wayward captain croons, as we float further into the darkness.
"Ship" is a tour-only EP, so drive, fly, run, or swim if you must to a show near you.
