Slick Rick - I Shouldn't Have Done It

One of the original storytellers, Slick Rick was one of the first stylish emcees that I encountered growing up in the world of Hip-Hop. Some rappers lose their luster after a while, but Rick still has that magic and if you don't believe me, I suggest you listen to his verse on "Auditorium" from Mos Def's latest album The Ecstatic. This song was on the album that he released right before he went to jail and it's one of my personal favorites. By the way, you notice that even though this is a hip-hop record, during this time period that whole club/house scene started to infiltrate the videos and influence how rappers dressed. You can even take notice of the dancers in the videos, you had men doing ballet dances back then which would receive that almighty side-eye if those theatrics were put to use to day. Could you imagine some random dude jumping and doing interpretive dances in a Drake video?! Nah, not at all but hey that's the early 90's.
