Infamous for its feuds, followers of the volatile Dancehall scene will all have had the "King of the Dancehall" debate. From Sean Paul and Beenie Man to Mavado and Busy Signal, Dancehall fans are loyal listeners each with their own favourite riddim making bro. Strangely then, that for a genre that dominates Jamaica, countries like our very own England know practically nothing about one of the greatest music genres ever created. Fortunately for you, ECOUTEZ are about to introduce you to some of the hottest talent and craziest tunes as we ask the question: who's the King of the Dancehall?Tarrus Riley: King of the Dancehall?
One of our favourite Dancehall acts of 2009 is Tarrus Riley. Growing up in South Florida and taking his star sign as his stage name, the 30 year old singer has been creating interesting Reggae since 2004.
His three albums have earned him one hell of a reputation and his latest attempt, Contagious, features, like, the whole of Jamaica's VIP: Damian Marley, Vybz Kartel, Etana, Konshens, Demarco... If that doesn't suggest to you that his 2009 release is brilliant, then maybe his 2009 MOBO award nomination for "Best Reggae", says something. Sample the album's lead single below and if you like his style & breathtaking vocals, then make sure you purchase the album here.
