You Should Know
I actually first encountered Birmingham's Wild Sweet Orange at Vinyl Fever in Tampa when my girlfriend bought their EP on a whim. She liked the whale album art and it was only a couple bucks, so we figured what the hey. So, cruising in her surprisingly roomy Toyota Yaris, we gave the EP a spin. I liked what I heard at the time but I hadn't really thought about the band until I noticed that they recently put out a full-length album entitled We Have Reason To Be Uneasy . The debut album took more than 2 years to complete and much of its polish can be attributed to producer Mike McCarthy (Spoon, And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Patty Griffin). Vocalist Preston Lovinggood shows impressive range as a songwriter. From melodic indie rock on songs like "Ten Dead Dogs" and "Either/Or" to the driving folk of "An Atlas To Follow," Lovinggood shows both maturity and measured restraint. The young band has already toured with Counting Crows and appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman. They are currently on tour with Margot And The Nuclear So & So's. Definitely a band worth keeping tabs on. -- Capt. Obvious
