Felt 3: A Tribute to Rosie Perez
-
Artist:

I know we covered these guys a few days ago (see here -- I happen to think I did a fine job with that one if I don't say so myself), but since announcing that the album would be produced entirely by Aesop Rock, FELT has sent out the cover art and let people know who the record is going to pay tribute to. It's Rosie Perez. Man, these guys are sweeping B-List actresses like they were last year's Pistons.
Slug, the rhyming half of Atmosphere (Ant handles production) says of FELT, "if you hate Atmosphere, you'll love this record." Cool. But that doesn't necessarily mean that if you like Atmosphere, you won't like this record -- it just means that this one's not about the emo-rap style he's been known for (that said, classifying Slug as emo-rap is as derogatory as calling Saul Williams a slam poet).
Slug trades in the emo, and, alongside MURS (of Living Legends fame, and the guy responsible for gem-lines like "I love you like a rap kid loves breaks"), goes in on "a musical collaboration with the long-term goal of having sex with b-level Hollywood actresses. This record is not for the love of Hip Hop. The album is not to prove whose city has a better-implemented smoking ban. It’s solely a vehicle for rappers to have celebrity sex." Still, he's "trying to build heaven while the world's still spinning," while Murs is "one of the few rappers left that'll do what I say."
The two already showed tight chemistry on FELT 1 & 2. Now, with another album and a few more years under their belt there's no reason to think that Slug and MURS will have done anything but improve. The album drops on 11.17.09 -- pick it up and call it a good evening.
