SOUNDS OF FUTURE PAST AND PRESENT PERFECT

ALBUM REVIEW: Au Revoir Simone 'Still Night, Still Light' out 18 May on Moshi Moshi

The trademark Au Revoir Simone sound is there but there is a far more darker, one might even say bleaker edge to the all-female keyboard trio's brand new album.Apparently this has something to do with the bands lack of home time and as they have spent more and more time touring and away from their family and friends they began to write their new material. This is their third album and for me it marks a watershed in the bands chronology. As I listened to the album progress past the outstanding 'Knight Of Wands' through to 'Only You Can Make Me Happy' I was impressed with the originality that they had created with their new almost church like religious sound (check the organ start to OYCMMH).I was disappointed with the overall bleakness in a way, but only from a fans perspective. Having seen them perform live and knowing just how much of a positive aura they project in their music and live performances this sombre sound just didn't seem to fit. After the initial disappointment I got over it and once again I just can't wait for the next instalment!4/5YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE: It Hugs BackZoe TropeLISTEN:
