WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Malcolm Holcombe::Baby Likes a Love Song [Video]

Posted 3 months ago

I happened to mention Malcolm Holcombe's name here on The Rut last week purely because I was in the midst of conversation with myself. A conversation, that for whatever reason, I just happened to share with you. It was one of those listening conversations I have with music which begins because the inspiration moves me to do so. A conversation on that particular day that found me sitting alone on a Thursday morning, talking with the words of songwriters coming out of my stereo's speakers.

Well that conversation led to a question, that question led to an old album review I wrote for Holcombe's Not Forgotten, and now that old album review has led me here. When I first started talking about Malcolm Holcombe I really had no idea that he was going to be playing in our backyard a little over a week later.

The stories in Malcolm Holcombe's songs feel real when you listen to them...so real that you can hear the hurt. Or to state it more clearly...his stories are so real that you can hear the truth. There's really just no other way to describe Malcolm Holcombe's music and if tried to do so I would have to borrow someone else's words: "With Malcolm Holcombe, it's hard to tell the singer from the song" ~ Nashville Scene

Malcolm Holcombe appears at the Devil's Backbone Brewing Company in Roseland, Virginia on Friday, August 28th at 9pm. He'll also be appearing on WNRN 91.9's Acoustic Sunrise that same morning at 8am for a live in-studio interview and performance. Tune in and please do yourself a favor and go see him live. The truth never sounded so good.

"Baby Likes a Love Song" appears on Malcolm Holcombe's 2008 release Gamblin' House via Echo Mountain Records. If you want to see and hear more from Holcombe, definitely check out the video from Studio South TV HERE (highly recommend!). His forthcoming album, For the Mission Baby, hits stores on September 29th. Produced by the always amazing Ray Kennedy, the album will also feature guest appearances from Tim O'Brien and Mary Gauthier.
