Beck’s next cover record by Skip Spence. Wilco, Feist and Jamie Lidell assisting.

Artist:
I seriously think Beck lives in my mind and/or my record collection and says to himself, “who would Colin like me to work with? Oh I know, Feist, Wilco and Jamie Lidell.” And why is this motley crew of musicians banding together? It’s because Beck has finished with his Leonard Cohen album and has moved on to the next...Skip Spence’s Oar. And since I know you have a rabid thirst for knowledge, here’s some more info on the album choice/crew from Beck’s website.
This one took place last June when Wilco was in town for the release of their new eponymous album. They came by after a long day filming a TV appearance and still managed to put down 8 songs with us. Jamie Liddell was in the studio with me working on his new record. Leslie Feist happened to be in town editing her documentary and heard we were all getting together. Recording took place at Sunset Sound Studios in the room where the Stones did a lot of Exile On Main Street (and looking at the records on the walls it appeared that the Doobie Brothers recorded most of their output there too). Sitting in on drums, we had James Gadson, who’s played on most of the Bill Withers records and on songs like “Express Yourself” and “I Will Survive.” Jeff Tweedy’s son Spencer played played additional drums. Also, Brian Lebarton, from the last two Record Club sessions is back.
First song from the record ("Little Hands") is above and if you want to hear more from this album or the other two record club albums (Songs of Leonard Cohen and the Velvet Underground & Nico) then keep checking back here.

thanks for the post---i'm REAL psyched to hear this project. Beck's always doing amazing stuff and this time we've got some co-horts.
i've worked with James Gadson a bunch and he's AWESOME.....not just a monster drummer, but a genuine great guy. When i did my "Altered States" CD, I covered Bill Withers' "Use Me", but i had the Mexican band Kinky backing up Pete Yorn's vocals so James didn't play on that one. Brian LeBarton is all over the record though, playing on tracks i did with people like Rachael Yamagata, Inara George and Jesca Hoop singing for me. It was a blast.
Thanks Robin. Glad to hear you enjoyed the post and thanks for sharing your experiences with James Gadson. Niec to hear that he's a genuine great guy in addition to his awesome drumming skills!
