Like Editors? Joy Division? The Chameleons? A bit of The Cure?
I've never been to Alexandra Palace before, so wasn't sure what to expect of Ally Pally. I'd seen Interpol tour their second Album (Antics) at Bristol Carling Academy supported by Secret Machines... so I knew what to expect of them.
When you consider another New York band (The Strokes) had a dire second and third album and, from personal experience I can tell you they are chronic live, it's great to experience Interpol.
They sang tracks from Turn On The Bright Lights as well as Antics including "Next Exit", "Slow Hands", "Roland", "Public Pervert", "Obstacle #1", "NYC", "Not Even Jail", "The New", "Narc", "Length of Love", "Evil", and "C'Mere". The crowd reacted well to all of these, as you would expect.
But the tracks from the new Album, Our Love to Admire felt like standards already - these included "Wrecking Ball", "The Scale", "Rest My Chemistry", "Pioneer To The Falls", "Mammoth", the relative quiet of "The Lighthouse", "The Heinrich Maneuver", "All Fired Up" and the latest single, "No I In Threesome"
A great New York band? Hell yes.
And in typical New York style, Carlos D (bass) lays down his guitar at the end... and puts on his manbag before leaving the stage... class!
The setlist 8/10, the band 9/10, the venue 9/10.... the knobheads in the crowd who were pissed, stoned or whizzing... and could only shout 'Rosemary'.... those tossers get 1/10.
I have all kinds of tracks that were worth putting on here including Slow Hands, Evil or Obstacle #1 (one of the encore tracks) but I thought a track of the new album would make you wanna go listen to more of their stuff.

I went Thursday night and enjoyed it immensely although £3.50 for a beer was a bit steep.

Excellent post as always BR, although I don't see why you are going out when you have all those songs to rate. 'Our Love To Admire' kicks off with one of the songs of the year in 'Pioneer to the Falls', what a start! And the rest of the album doesn't disappoint. The trouble is, the Editors always release an album about the same time and I always end up comparing the two.
To be honest, I can't split them. A lot of people poo-poo the Eds but when you see them at places like Glastonbury (I mean on telly, I've never been there) that man up front doesn't half give it some. When you listen to them both a lot, you actually see that they are nothing like each other, other than the ICesque vocals.
The £3.50 a pint price scandal is something the likes of Which? should be looking in to, but those people don't go to gigs as they are busy testing out kettles and sandwich toasters instead.

Hey Pip :)
I saw Editors at Glastonbury in the rain - they OWNED that festival... mark my words, they will headline one year.
You're right, they DO get lumped (for want of a better word) together but there's little similarity in terms of style and content - whereas Tom (Editors) is very expressive with shades of Snow Patrol's Garry Lightbody, Paul (Interpol) is static.
SP have many arena-friendly tracks which is where Editors are going but SP have to try so hard to achieve it whilst Editors is effortless.
And Interpol... they're deceptive! You think they have these slow lazy tracks... but the hooks are hidden deep and before you know it... the old head is nodding, the knee is rocking and you wanna shout out loud.
And £3.50 for pish.... the thieves!
