Beautiful performance. The band is not missed, but their absence adds to the intimate charm of the performance. A heartfelt performance from someone who gets it. There is a little sound spike about 3 minutes in so don't jump!

My Trusted MOGs
just exactly perfect.

In this one he's starting to get his mumble on and singers who mumble get no sympathy from me. If someone *including yourself) has taken the time to write a song, liet's bother to sing it in a manner that people can understand at least some of it.

“This is a song about kind of about my mom and and Hot Wheels and stuff, cause I just spent some time in my home town, my mom got really sick, and I went down there and it’s very sobering to be with somebody that’s ill and it was really weird: for once in my mother’s life she actually liked to listen to me play, so I knew she was, you know, fucked up. But she’s fine now.” Ryan Adams
Lyrics:
Open window by the bed Used to sound of moaning trains I had a blanket of my own That I would share now and again
I had a police car Had a fire truck and things I didn't like it much First time they came after me
But it's all just folklore now It's washed out in blood and memories Yeah it's all just folklore now That's all I'll ever let it be.
My momma used to cry little girl She'd cry and everybody'd leave The kitchen led to the back porch Back porch led to fenced in trees.
I had a police car Had a fire truck and things I had a flat tire on my bicycle That I wished could grow some wings.
When it's all just folklore now It's washed out in blood and memories Yeah it's all just folklore now That's all I'll ever let it be

Thanks for the lyrics. Still feels pretty half-hearted, like he really didn't get the pathos of the context (his intro) into the actual song. That sound spike gets me every time despite your kind warning.

Damn, I've got to edit that bad boy out
Sorry :-)

So speaking to a Ryan Adams skeptic who doesn't brook mumbling, what alubm would you recommend as a starting point to show him off in the best light?
My Trusted MOGs
And what, do you suppose, is the root of this skepticism? Or, do you walk this world as a natural skeptic? Please, please, relax, take a deep breath and perhaps we can get a stream of consciousness going I'm not saying that skepticism is a bad thing, mind you, I'm just curious

Where music is concerned, I guess that 1) I feel like there's enough time-tested classic material in most every genre that I need to get to know and/or to know more intimately, so I keep a healthy skepticism so as not to be blown by every will-o-the-wisp new music sensation; and 2) I think I have a tendency to shun band wagons though I am not peverse in this, so if something is popular and by my lights also good I certainly don't hesitate to embrace it. And probably in general I am a skeptic which is probably a necessary counterweight to a tendency to idealism and the desire to believe.
