I have been lounging in my cramped bedroom, and I am very indifferent about the clutter. All I care about is Toumani Diabate's Mande Variations. It is his latest solo album that is justified to be listened to by the purists of heart... it is a sacred beauty. I was not sure whether the reviewers of the mainstream where jus hopping around and celebrating an album jus for the sake of it. But this album is a jewel.

Diabete, is the master over his kora, the 21-stringed instrument that sounds like something cross a lute and a harp. This is the song of the mystery - I now have thoughts of Alice Coltrane strumming that fragile harp of hers. This is revolutionary stuff by the Bamako born griot. Although this is only his second album Diabate explored the folkloric technics of plating rhe instument that were foinded by the Mande empire back in 1235. But that doesn't mean that Toumani is backward in anyway. He is taking the sound into the future... into the now.
