hey ya'll,sorry i've been slacking on the posts over the last month and a half. i'd like to claim it's because i've been busy, but the reality is that the sun recently made its annual appearance here in the northwest and i've been blowing off almost all my responsibilities. woopsy...the early to mid 60's were a golden age for music here in the pacific northwest. while the Kingsmen, The Wailers and The Sonics are certainly our most widely recognized exports, they don't begin to represent the sheer volume of great music being made during that period.this is one my favs from that era, performed by Rocky and His Friends and recorded by legendary northwest producer Kearney Barton. if you enjoy this track, should pick up any of the 'Northwest Killers" comps on Norton Records and get yer NW garage on!Enjoy!xoben

Shake it up baby surf rock kinda feel to it, fun.
Here in the Northeast we get almost as much rain as y'all do, and it's easy to wrapped around the sunny days lost in between.
Mogging should be fun Ben, not just another "responsibility". Surf the mogos anonymously and lose yourself in other mogger's musical lives...just a thought

Can't forget "The Ventures"... another Seattle Band who outsold the Beattles 2 to 1 in Japan during the 60's.
That song makes me feel like surfing to "Louie Louie"...

good stuff, there...
too bad that when the sun comes out in central california it's not enjoyable...everyone runs indoors screaming for their air conditioners...

who could blame you there man. sunshiney days are intoxicatingly distracting, especially where you are. although down here in huntsville, alabama, it's definitely a surplus luxury. it's progressed so far now that there's a drought here. i'll trade you, our sunshine for your rain. lol
thanks for the track sample, it's really great stuff; i'm definitely gonna check out some of those comps you're recommending.
oh and btw, you rock man!

Hello Mr. Gibbard
I am amazed that I am able to actually write something you may possibly read. I am a relatively new MOGGER. Where to begin....your music means more to me than any other music I listen to. I jam to Rage, I can connect with RHCP and can bounce to Biggie, but yours is different, it is something special. The writing is where the difference is, you are excellent at translating emotions to words and emotions to music. perfectly eloquent.
I have blazed to your music, cried to your music, been happy to your music, loved your music, partied to your music, made love to your music but my favorite fell alseep to your music.
The first time i heard PLANs, I was in a hatch back of an old BMW whippin down the coast of VA, going over a long bridge as the sun was setting and the music was almost painting the picture I was viewing.
I love your music. It was so inspiring i have written my own little poems to it. i would love to show you
Anyways, this might be a little much, but i am trying to convey what the essence of your music means to me. I have had some hard times the past 2 years and your music has always been there for me.
not crazy, just a college bro, that loves his Deathcab

Hey, just wanted to say you guys put on a great show in Eugene last night!! My first DCFC concert; won't be the last! Awesome new stuff. Can't wait to buy the album.
Cheers, and enjoy the rest of your tour!
That is so Pacific Northwest. That guitar line is so f-in' mean. And what a groove! Shame the Beatles had to come along. That is so punk. Makes me want to peel out in a muscle-car...
I read recently that you were inspired by the beat poets - specifically Kerouac - Certainly your lyrics are as raw - rounded smooth by melody. I can see the similarities, but what specifically about Kerouac inspires you?
Ben: Can you relay as to where you got the idea for "Narrow Stairs" as your most recent CD title? I read the Bible alot & narrow doors (as opposed to wide doors) are alluded to as a way to heaven (not that yours is a biblical analogy!)
Also, I feel you possess a kinship with the LATE, GREAT, fellow Seattle-ite-KURT COBAIN. Do you feel his influence today? When you did the music track for the movie about him-were you inspired divinely? It is my belief that the Seattle music scene is still feeling his passing (subconciously) but that DCFC is brightening that up substantially.
What as HONOR to be opening for Neil Young on your latest tour. His legacy is immense and "Cinnamon Girl" is one of MY FAVORITE SONGS!
Looking forward to seeing you soon in San Diego! Thanks.
Hi Ben, collective messsage from your fans in Belfast:
We were really disappointed at how rude you were last night after the show. You got in your tour bus and said you'd be back out in a minute. An hour and a half later we're still waiting outside in the rain only to be told you're in bed.
It wouldn't have been a problem if you'd just said 'sorry guys not tonight', but to leave us waiting like that is just not cool. We appreciate that Nick came out to talk to us, but it would've been courteous to let us know you weren't planning on coming back out. We are big fans and it felt like a slap in the face.
However, it was a fantastic show and it's great that you guys finally made it to Belfast. So thanks for that. And sorry about the dickhead who threw a sock at you on stage!
I am so sorry to hear about the behavior of Ben Gibbard in Belfast. Maybe something was wrong with him because he seems to be a cordial enough fellow. Perhaps JETLAG?
I can tell you that he recently opened here in San Diego for Neil Young at the Cox Arena and I was informed by some radio DJ's that he found A SCORPION hiding in his "rock'n'roll" pants he puts on for the show. I think it even bit him twice! I take that as a sign of a bad omen! But he went on stage and played his heart out-God Bless Him!
Otherwise-I prefer hearing this band in a OUTDOOR setting-I think their music is better experienced IN NATURE! Ben is SOOO INTENSE when he plays and DCFC is generally regarded as mellow/friendly/"SEATTLE" & I am hopeful that if Ben should see this, he will send you an apology or an explanation of some sort! PEACE TO YOU IN IRELAND!
Jetlag would, of course, be understandable. But no one even had the courtesy to let us know. Oh well, hopefully that won't be the last chance I'll get to meet him!
I heard the scorpion story, that's pretty hardcore! I love San Diego, you're lucky to live there!
Yeah-Laura-give Ben Gibbard some slack & just say it's jet lag!
I know when I flew to London a while back, I was feelin funky!
I was FREAKED out when I heard the scorpion story, because I know it sounds like I'm crazy, BUT I FEEL DCFC is CHANNELING KURT COBAIN! (You know- the Seattle connection & Ben scoring "About a Boy" movie.)
And sure enough, after that incident-weird, evil things started happening. But enough about me...yes, San Diego IS beautiful, thank you, but so is IRELAND! And you gave the world saintly BONO & wonderful U2! I must say thank you for that! Your pubs are loads of fun & the EMERALD ISLE is gorgeous! The Irish invade San Diego every summer and get jobs at Sea World, but what they are really doing is PARTYiNG DOWN and DRINKIN like there's NO TOMORROW! It's all good!
Your music inspires me so much. Your lyrics are genius. I created this account just so I could post on your wall! I just discovered you guys do a rendition of "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) and I can't stop listening to it. Transatlanticism changed my life, seriously. I found myself in your music.
I wrote a paper about your song "The Ice Is Getting Thinner" for my Poetry class and Aced it :).
Woah, I didn't know I was commenting on THIS post. I could say anthing though, right?
I just want to say, congratulations on being the most popular mog! I just got an account and clicked 'browse moggers' and there's ben gibbard there. Anyway ben gibbard, you have such a fun name to pronounce. I really wish your poetry inspired me as much as it inspired Meghan, who's post is right above this now. I like it very much though.
Dear Ben Gibbard, On April 25th 2009 Invisible Children is hosting The RESCUE, a rally in 100 cities across ten countries, to bring attention to the plight of the children abducted and forced to fight as soldiers in Central East Africa. For the past 23 years, the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and the Government of Uganda (GoU) have been waging a war that has left nearly two million innocent civilians caught in the middle. We are asking governments and international bodies to develop a strategy and support existing efforts to rescue the child soldiers abducted by the LRA. The evening of April 25th, we will be hosting a Rescue event locally in Seattle. We are inviting you to join us. Thousands of young people will be at this event, and your attendance will strengthen our voice to inspire a generation into action. The RESCUE is a radically unique event, requiring supporters to ‘abduct themselves for the abducted’. Participants will travel by foot to a pre-determined location in their city that will serve as their “LRA Camp”. There, they will remain ‘abducted’ until a person of great influence or cultural significance arrives and ‘RESCUES’ them by making a public statement on behalf of the child soldiers. We would like that person to be you. The call to action: rescue the child soldiers and help finally bring Joseph Kony to justice for his unspeakable crimes against humanity and his continued unwillingness to sign peace. We simply invite you to stand with us and make these children visible. Here’s how you can help – 1. Come to the meeting place in your city at 4pm on April 25th and “lead” the group to the event location, a.k.a. “LRA Camp”. This will be about a 2–3 mile walk on foot. 2. Come to the camp anytime between 7pm and 11pm. Get up on stage, show your support and introduce a speaker on behalf of Invisible Children. 3. Be the ‘RESCUER.’ Your arrival would represent global attention to this issue and it would “free” the thousands camping out on this night for the child soldiers. The Rescue on April 25th follows the success of Invisible Children’s previous events, the Global Night Commute in 2006 and Displace Me in 2007, which included nearly 150,000 people collectively. The attention generated from these events widely contributed to the start of the peace talks between the LRA and the Government of Uganda, supported by special envoys from the United States and other nations. The political impact of The RESCUE is anticipated to be historical not only for northern Uganda and its surrounding areas, but for the world as a new generation of activists set a precedence for justice and change through a simple unified act. We will follow up in the coming days to answer any questions you may have and we are happy to provide additional information on this war along with our initiatives dedicated to ending it. Should you be able to join us on April 25th, we will work with you and your team to coordinate specific times, VIP meeting places and other such details. We sincerely thank you for your consideration in joining us. Amanda Torres
