goddammit, i miss the rock-a-teens

Posted almost 5 years ago
hey kids, while moving is a giant pain in the ass, it does allow you to come across pieces of your life you otherwise wouldn't. in the process of my current cross-town move, i've rediscovered everything from old photos to embarrassing things i had on my wall in high school to (thankfully) some albums i hadn't listened to in years. the rock-a-teens, 'baby, a little rain must fall' being the highlight.i first saw these guys opening for superchunk in the summer of '97 in seattle and they blew me away. i was instantly a huge fan. thankfully, death cab had the good fortune of playing with them in the fall of 2001 on what i assume must have been one of they're last tours. if they were still around today they'd undoubtedly be giving the arcade fire a run for their money as they most epic band in indie rock.for those interested, chris lopez now fronts a band called tenement halls. they're great and you can get their record and the rock-a-teens catalog from lovely lovely merge records.bye bye,ben

  4. petenema says Since I'm digging the new Tenament Halls album, it may be worth looking back and giving this CD a listen. It's always interesting to hear the music that preceeded something you currently enjoy, so I'll track it down. But for everyone reading, I recommend supporting Chris Lopez/Tenament Halls first. I want them to be successful enough to stay active. That way Ben won't have to write a blog entitled "goddammit, i miss tenament halls..." :-)

  16. whiteshadow says these bands are so indie...they don't even have myspaces. I don't have one either, so I must be pretty "indie" myself. moving blows...like a big steaming load... and right now (10:00ish on March 28) I'm listening to "send packing"...does that strike up any memories Ben? And please stop touring...You've got a new Death Cab album, and hopefully a new Postal Service album to be working on...and that trumps touring right now. But best wishes with all of that stuff.
