Good to hear..and about time..Of course, wasn't that comp available in the US years ago..or is it different..I got most of mine, prior to the French re-issues, from Celluloid here in the US. They did a great service to us hungry little beat miners in the 80's. These new re-issues, if they are like the French ones, are of exponetially better quality.
Dunno if the re-issues are remastered...but I think the vinyls' where its at!
True indeed..
Really bummed that I can't get down to Philadelphia tomorrow night. Man, that one in Harlem is bound to be hummin'...Cody, I once had a Celluloid 12-inch of "Army Arrangement" that Laswell remixed. It was pretty dire. Not Fela's fault, either.
Fela's 80's stuff didn't always grab me, though I still will get all the re-issues I don't have..and, though I sometimes like Bill's stuff, I haven't always been a fan of his remixes ie.the Marley and Miles Davis projects. Folks tell me I missed the boat on those, so I might have to recheck, but at the time I wasn't digging.
Fela's best sound, to me, was stoned but aggressive. Laswell's remix was stoned but...well, stoned. However, that's not to say Fela was necessarily his own best producer. I kinda love the job that Ginger Baker did on "He Miss Road"....
There are zero pieces of his from the 70's I don't like..some of the early, early ones are not my faves and some of the 80's things I need to revisit. As always..I'm stuck in the 70's.
Far worse places to be....
