I Gotta Rep my Bass Players!

Posted over 2 years ago
First I want to thank meko for showing me this guy, I'd never him really play before. This is Joe Satriani's bass player Stuart Hamm. After listening to this solo I had to post about it, it's incredible...at least I think so. The one thing I really don't get though is why he gets booed throughout. How could you boo that solo? The melodic flow of it all is amazing, that's the only way to describe it.

  1. Jonh Ingham says People are stupid - he was taking up Satriani time! Or maybe they're just jealous that they don't have a metalflake bass.

  2. bassguitarhero says Yeah that's probably it, I was so confused as to why they would possibly boo him. Just the way he plays though is ridiculous...I wish I could do the stuff he does.

  3. sam9muhr says Sounds good to me. I think the bass solo is way underused! Love me a good bass solo.

  6. Bassmann says Hey guys, You've got it wrong, but it's easy to understand why. This is all part of Stu's routine. If you've ever seen him play, he baits the audience along all the time. They know he's a hot player but he starts off slow. So he will get a boo here and there for his slow melodic start. But it's after he does some hot playing and then suddenly stops, saying the band's got to come back on, that the crowd starts booing, not because he's bad, but because they don't want him to stop playing. He does this on purpose. It's a hoot. He plays the audience perfectly. Then, he plays some more until his time is up. Even then, some in the crowd will still boo because they want more, not because he's not good. So if anything, they are "good" boos, not bad boos. If you can, get out and see him, he's simply incredible! Rob W (the old bass player)

  7. bassguitarhero says That's a really interesting strategy, but I must say if what you're saying is true then it really works. Good boos...that's new to me lol.
