*i apologize. i should have posted this about a month ago. must remember: blog to mog, blog to mog*Wednesday, March 05, 2008well, i went to the wilco show on monday at the mobile civic center theater. john doe opened for them. damn, i haven't heard anything from that guy since he was in X. they played well. closed his set with a guest appearance from (guitar genius and wilco six stringer) nels cline. they ripped into a kick ass cover of the Rolling Stones "Gimmie Shelter" that was (to me) one of the highlights of the night.wilco came out shortly thereafter, so much for a pee break. i just hunkered down in my seat and prepared for the show (everyone was sitting in the theater's seats for most of the show... until the end; the only time i went to pizz. i came back to find everyone standing. i think jeff tweedy saw someone dozing in the front row during the show. at the end he said something to somone down in front. "go to bed!" he said.) the went through their extensive catalog and played a fair amount of their newest LP Sky Blue Sky. hell, they played for almost 2 and a half hours (freakin awesome!). even recreating some of the best Yankee Hotel Foxtrot tracks.a week before the show, i heard you could request a song for wilco to play in their set list (snog me if i'm wrong, but i think this was an "all requests" tour). it was difficult to choose one since most of their songs are great. in the end it was a toss-up for "Bob Dylan's 49th Beard" and "A Magazine Called Sunset." i chose the latter because that song reminds me of how much i love music and it always seems to make me smilejeff didn't banter or socialize any if not at all between songs, but at one point of the show jeff says, "this song always gets requested the most on tour." "it was on an internet-only release EP, so if you need to get a beer of go to the bathroom, do so now." "this one's called 'A Magazine Called Sunset'." sarcastic banter, i'm sure. he played the song i chose, purty damn kuul.the band was solid throughout. jeff, singing is melodies and changing guitars (between 3 or 4, i can't remember) almost every song. nels shreddin it up, as usual. i wanna know what his setup was on this table he had at his side, dammit. and what kind of amp he was using (prolly a studio amp that's class a tube and hand wired). even multi-instrumentalist pat sansone was superb at his maraca juggling skills. they came out for an encore with about 10 or so more songs. 2 and a half mothatrukkin hours, wee!a crazy thing that happens at "concert gatherings" is the fact that you see people you didn't even know were coming. i saw some friends of mine (kris paulk and his brother todd) as soon as i walked through the door and went to the merch table. shortly afterwards, i saw another too (RW). it's kinda cool when you think about how you all converged to this place be entertained, not knowing that person was even going to be there, and then, by chance, you see em. neato, eh?ah, but to me, happenstance is all too common.
