White Stripes

So what do people think of the new white stripes? So far I've only heard icky thump, but it sounds good to me... Apparently Meg White said that she was glad she finished the album so quickly.... does faster mean better or worse for the white stripes?

I need some real music lovers opinions here.... Thanks :)

I have a girlfriend

I have a girlfriend, who is amazing and I am in LOVE!!!! She takes up all my time. Sorry Moggers, but this is very serious, so I might not get to mog as much.

ON a musical note, I just got the new "CLAP YOUR HANDS AND SAY YEAH!" Cd, and I have to say it didn't impress me as much as I thought it would.

it was sort of meh.

Although I like the new Lilly Allen CD. Its pure pop fun!

So I'm on this French music kick. And I was wondering if anyone had any reccomendations for some french music. Specifically like acoustic chick rock singers. Or perhaps a French Tom Waits?

Any suggestions?

New Years Mix

Ok so my friend is having a new years party and she wants me to bring my ipod, loaded with "booty shaking music" She likes older music as well as new music, so I want a good selection. Her ipod has lots of arabic music and classic rock, but she loves kanye west too. I am now taking suggestions for my playlist. Also I am warning you that if my playlist seems to be loaded with "crap" its because of her :)
thanks moggers!

I really like the cover that the Kooks did of Crazy by gnarles barkley. It rocks my world. On another note, the love of my life got a cooler hotter better girlfriend than me. I am severely drunk and depressed now.
thank god I have mog. It won't hurt me like he does.

Flustered, Frightened, Frusterated

James Brown is Dead, Rick James is Dead, and good music is dead. Ok thats not true, but its hard to see anyone in this day and age being the "Godfather of (neo)soul" or a "superfreak" It's not that there isn't a lot of good bands out there. In fact there are tons of good bands, but I feel like our generation(and younger) just isn't coming out with anything earthshaking. Will Eddie Vedder be named the Godfather of Grunge? Will Dr. Dre become the King of Rap? Is Beck the new Ziggy Stardust? Will there ever be anyone as big as the beatles? Do you realize that the beatles havebeen broken up for over 30 years, two of there members are dead, and they still have an album in thebillboard top 100? Thats music that stands the test of mutha fuckin time(not to mention Bob Dylan's new album that is just phenomenal).
I guess I'm just curious as to what music will look like in 30 or even 50 years. Will Madonna's music hold up for years to come? Will sublime still be played in smokey college dorm rooms? Will Eminem become old school? Will Britney get back with K-fed? These are the burning questions of a bored record store worker.

I really wish I could know every single thing there was and is to know about music. Like if I had some super ability, it would be to be able to know exactly what song to play at what exact moment and be able to tell someone exactly who wrote it who performed it, what album it appeared on and wether or not it was worth listening to. In short I would have all music guide in my head. That would be awesome. Completely useless as far as saving the world goes, but still pretty awesome.

So as a music geek and a stars wars geek I was ashamed of myself because I just now heard about this album. I am a failure as a geek, but I do feel pretty good now that I know there is the coolest christmas album ever out there waiting for me to get my hands on it. Amoeba here I come :)
Happy Holidays moggers!

Neil Young

Has anyone heard of an early bootleg of Neil Young called "live on sugar Mountain?"

Also were there any earlier bootlegs from that time(1970)? Possibly an all black/mostly black cover with like a very faint outline of neil with his guitar.

I'm looking for an album that was a 1970 solo acoustic live recording of an L.A. concert that neil young did. It may or may not be "Live at Sugar Mountain" I don't know, all I have is a memory of an old album my dad used to have.

Can anyone help me out with this?

SOooooo The little miss sunshine DVD is coming out on Dec. 19th and I was wondering if anyone has heard the soundtrack....
I'm not a big fan of the ambient/instrumental Devotchka thing, but the two sufjan Stevens songs are fabulous and of course who doesn't like a super freak?

Just curious....

She is even hotter in person.
She called me honey.
It was the best night ever.

On a completely related note, does anyone else love "Rent" as much as I do? It's one of my favorite musicals ever. In fact I think I'll listen to it right now :)

So I haven't had interweb for a while, and I feel very sad that I haven't mogged in over a week! But I will be better about it from now on, this site is way too cool for me to stay away.

Also I wanted to ask if anyone knows of Witchcraft.... I think thats what they are called and I think they are from Sweden. Supposedly a Black-sabbath sounding group, but I have no clue to be honest. They played nearby my town recently and I'm wondering if I should regret missing the show and go see them right away, or can I save my money and download a couple songs from itunes?
If you know about it let me know.....

This is more a welcome blog to myself. I have to say I am very excited to find a new site that is "just" starting, and is all about music. I think I'm going to like Mog a lot, but I'm new so I don't know exactly what to do here. Hopefully some experienced Mogger will take pity on me and help me out. If not, I'm still stoked cuz Ben Gibbard is on here and he is one of my favorite artists. I just got the 2 part 7" series of "I will follow you into the dark" which is such a haunting yet beautiful song. Its on colored vinyl(yellow and green) and both come with posters. Its pretty awesome. Also it talks about a DVD of movies inspired by Plans, which I want to get, so I'm stoked on that.
well I just want to welcome myself to this new site so um yeah welcome!
