Review - The Ropes - Be My Gun EP

Posted almost 3 years ago

Be My Gun is three overall solid songs. With the title track leading the way through a powerful riff and bass combo, the disc's highlight was very worthy of it's placement on the short EP. Add in "Too Cool To Love" and you're well on your way to a strong even unforgettable EP. "Too Cool To Love" again features a strong base and drumline with mysterious lyrics from vocalist Sharon Shy.

Unfortunately, the disc's break point is packed in the middle like an oversized anchovy in a small tin can. "Kitty Get Down" wanders like the stray alley cat searching for a good home. Musically, the song doesn't miss out from The Ropes barrage of mysterious and sultry sound. The lyrics on the other hand leave plenty to be desired. Even with an understanding of the song's meaning (short version: helping someone who needs help and may be too scared to ask) doesn't make a song about a kitty in a tree any easier to swallow.

It's truly lucky, that The Ropes chased the kitty song with a solid closer in "Too Cool To Love," otherwise, Be My Gun would be shooting blanks.
